Every graduate must wear the correct Timberview HS robe and may only adorn the robe with the cords or stoles that have been officially bestowed on them from the school. Graduate robes and mortarboards may not be decorated. Before Commencement, you will need to iron your gown using a low heat setting. Please do not hem the Commencement gown.
Ladies should wear dark colored dresses and dark comfortable dress shoes. Majorly high heels are discouraged. You will walk quite a distance to get into position for the processional as well as walk across the stage in front of your family and classmates.
(No one wants to tumble!!!) |
Gentlemen should wear a white-collared shirt with tie; long dark dress pants; black dress shoes with dark socks.
Guys may not want to wear a suit jacket because it will be very hot under the gown. |
Mortarboards (caps) are to be placed on the top of the head so that the mortarboard is flat on top. Bobby pins are suggested to hold the hat in place. Tassels are to be placed on the RIGHT side of the mortarboard during the ceremony.

Graduation Honor Cords, stoles, & Medals
Students being honored for exemplary academic achievement don an honors cord and/or sash based on overall grade point average (cords) and participation in the THS chapter of the National Honors Society (stole). The THS Valedictorian and Salutatorian wear their respective metals. For the purpose of determining GPA honors recognized during graduation ceremonies, MISD calculates class rank for the valedictorian, salutatorian, summa cum laude students, magna cum laude students, and cum laude students at the end of the fall semester of the students’ senior year.
Valedictorian - The honor of Valedictorian is bestowed
on the graduating senior with the highest overall GPA. The Valedictorian for the THS Class of 2017 is Hana Ali. Salutatorian - The honor of Salutatorian is bestowed on the graduating senior with the 2nd highest overall GPA. The Salutatorian for the THS Class of 2017 is Benjamin Bich. |
Summa Cum Laude - meaning “with the highest praise” is the highest recognition awarded at graduation. To graduate summa cum laude, a student must achieve a 100.00+ or higher grade point average. Summa cum laude graduates wear a gold cord.
|
Magna Cum Laude – meaning “with great praise” is the second highest recognition awarded at graduation. To qualify for magna cum laude, a student must achieve a 97.00 – 99.99 grade point average. Magna cum laude graduates wear a silver cord.
|
Cum Laude – meaning “with praise” is the third recognition awarded at graduation. To qualify for cum laude, a student must achieve a 95.00 – 96.99 grade point average. Cum laude graduates wear a white cord.
